How to create a short, one-question poll in a Teams chat or meeting

Description:

Microsoft Teams allows users to create a poll in a channel, group or meeting chat. Polls can be used for a single question with up to 6 options or answers. The people in the chat with your poll will see a real-time summary of poll responses

Instructions:

On a computer 

In either the Desktop App or online/browser version of Teams,

  1. Open the Teams channel, group, or meeting chat you want to create a poll
  2. Select Polls underneath the "Type a new message" field

⇒ Note: If the Polls icon does not appear here:

  1. Click the three (3) horizontal dots
  2. Right click on the Polls app
  3. Select Pin to add as an icon under the message box.​​​​​​
  1. On the Polls pop up, enter your Question and options.
  2. Select Add option for up to six (6) choices
    • Turn on the Multiple answers toggle for others to be able to select more than one option

Polls pop up in Teams

  1. Save to see a preview of your poll
  2. Click Edit to make any changes
  3. Send to post to the Team chat

On a Mobile Device

  1. Open the Teams channel, group, or meeting chat you want to create a poll
  2. Tap the plus + button next to the "Type a message" field
  3. Select Polls
  4. One the Polls pop up, enter your question and options.
  5. Select Add option for up to six (6) choices
    • Turn on the Multiple answers toggle for others to be able to select more than one option
  6. Save to see a preview of your poll
  7. Click Edit to make any changes
  8. Send to post to the Team chat

To respond to a Poll

  1. Select your choice(s)
  2. Submit vote
    • Some polls allow you to submit multiple answers
